Translation

Jiva Institute of Vedic Studies is actively engaged in publishing translations of ancient Sanskrit texts.

We are also interested in publishing books that connect science and spirituality, eastern and western cultures, traditional and contemporary thoughts etc. Work is already on in this area and you can get periodic updates in our Newsletter - Samskar.

Work is also going on to translate important Sanskrit texts. In the near future, we plan to publish the following books:

  • Sarva-samvadini of Jiva Gosvami - Philosophy
    A supplement to Sandarbhas in which Jiva Gosvami takes on all the major philosophies and establishes that acintyabhedabheda-vada is the supreme philosophy. (3 Vols.)


  • Siddhanta Ratnam of Baladeva Vidyabhusana - Philosophy
    A premier to Govinda bhasya. (2 Vols.)


  • Vedanta Syamantaka of Baladeva Vidyabhusana - Philosophy
    Briefly describes the essence of Gaudiya Vaisnava Philosophy. (1 Vol.)


  • Siddhanta darpana of Baladeva Vidyabhusana - Philosophy
    It establishes the transcendental nature of the Vedas, Puranas, and especially of Srimad-Bhagavatam. (1 Vol.)


  • Govinda Bhasya - Philosophy
    The pinnacle of Baladeva’s contribution to philosophy, his commentary on Vedanta-sutra. He explains the sutras according to the philosophy of acintyabheda-bheda. (4 Vols.)


  • Sri Bhagavan–Nama-kaumudi of Pandita Laksmidhara - Theology
    A short treatise on the essential philosophy of the holy name, Namaparadha, Namabhasa, etc. It establishes chanting as the goal of life, removing all doubts and opposition. The Gosvamis cite references from this book. (1 Vol.)


  • Laghu-bhagavatamrtam of Rupa Gosvami - Theology
    This is the condensed form of Brhad bhagavatamrtam of Sanatana Gosvami. It gives the philosophical tenets without the storyline. (1 Vol.)


  • Brhad-Bhagavatamrtam of Sanatana Gosvami - Philosophy
    The first book of the Gosvamis. Lord Caitanya instructed Santana Gosvami to write this book in which he sets forth all the tenets of acintya-bhedabheda-vada in story form. All the other Gosvamis drew from this book. (3 Vols.)


  • Brhad-Harinamamrta-Vyakaranam of Srila Jiva Gosvami - Grammar
    Sanskrit grammar for the Vaisnavas. The sutras are made using the names of Lord Krsna. When Mahaprabhu taught Sanskrit grammar he explained kalapa sutras in relation to Lord Krsna. To please Him the author composed this grammar. (6 Vols.)


  • Prayuktakhyata Manjari of Rupa Gosvami - Sanskrit Roots
    This book lists all important word roots with their meaning in verses. (1 Vol.)


  • Sri Krsna janam Tithi Vidhi of Rupa Gosvami - Religious Rituals
    It gives details how to celebrate the Janmastami festival. (1 Vol.)


  • Hari Bhakti Vilasa of Sanatana Gosvami - Religious Rituals
    This book explains the details on guru, disciple, the initiation ceremony , ekadasi and other vratas, deity installation , deity worship, and so on . It is the smrti for the Vaisnavas. (5 Vols.)


  • Sarartha Varsini Tika of Visvanatha Cakravarti - Philosophy
    Gita Commentary. (1 Vol.)


  • Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (with the commentaries of Jiva Gosvami and Visvanatha Cakravarti) - Bhakti Rasa
    It describes the various stages of pure devotion, rasas and rasabhasas. This book should be studied thoroughly by every serious Gaudiya Vaisnava. It is also respected by Vaisnavas of other Sampradayas. (4 Vols.)


  • Ujjvala Nilamani of Srila Rupa Gosvami - Madhurya Rasa
    An extensive exposition on madhurya rasa. (3 Vols.)


  • Sri Bhakti -rasamrta-sesa of Jiva Gosvami - Aesthetics
    Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu gives definitions related to aesthetics in bhakti. Sri Jiva wrote this as a complementary work. (1 Vol.)


  • Nataka Candrika by Rupa Gosvami - Dramaturgy
    He delinates the basic rules of drama. Readers will be able to appreciate books such as Lalita Madhava. (2 Vols.)


  • Alankara Kaustubha of Kavi Karnapura - A work on poetics
    Srimad Bhagavatam is Kavya literature and to understand it properly one has to know the rules of poetics. (4 Vols.)


  • Chanda-Kaustubha of Sri Radha Damodara Dasa - Chanda (Meter)
    Some 264 meters used in Sanskrit poetry as defined by the diksa guru of Baladeva Vidyabhusana. (1 Vol.)


  • Sangita Madhava of Prabhodananda Sarasvati - Music
    Songs in various ragas glorifying the Lord. (1 Vol.)


  • Svakiyatva Nirasa-Parakiyatva-nirupanam by Visvanatha Cakravarti - Philosophy
    In this book he resolves the svakiya/parakiya controversy in favor of Parakiya Rasa. (1 Vol.)


  • Gopala Campu of Srila Jiva Gosvami - Poetry
    Magnum Opus of Jiva Gosvami

    It explains Krsna's pastimes in detail. It is a mixture of prose and poetry. This is a great book to study the application of Harinamamrta Vyakarana. (4 Vols.)


  • Ananda Vrndavana Campu of Kavi Karnapura - Poetics
    This is a master piece of kavi Karnapura describing Lord Krsna 's pastime in Vrndavana. The language is comparable to the Kadambari of Bana Bhatta. (2 Vols.)


  • Lalita Madhava of Rupa Gosvami - Drama
    Lord Krsna‘s pastime in Dvaraka are described. (2 Vols.)


  • Vidagdha Madhava of Rupa Gosvami - Drama
    A Play based on the principle that Lord Krsna never leaves Vraja. (2 Vols.)


  • Caitanya Candrodaya Nataka of Kavi Karnapura - Drama
    Portraying Lord Caitanya's life and precepts, written to quell the author's feeling of separation from Lord Caitanya. (1 Vol.)


  • Krsnabhavanamrta of Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura - Kavya
    Describes the pastimes of Lord Krsna in Vraja. (2 Vols.).


  • Radha-rasa-sudha-nidhi of Sri Prabhodananda Sarasvati - Poetry
    Glorifies Srimati Radharani in 212 verses and explains her superexcellent position. (1 Vol.)


  • Govinda Lilamrta of Krsnadasa Kaviraja - Poetry
    A popular book among Gaudiya Vaisnavas. When Srila Rupa Gosvami was old, the Vaisnavas requested him to compose some verses for meditation on the lord's pastimes. Srila Rupa Gosvami composed the Smaranamangala Stotra consisting of twelve verses. Using this as a basis, Kaviraja Gosvami composed his Mahakavya of 2,588 verses (5 Vols.)


  • Sri Krsna-caitanya-caritamrtam Mahakayvam of Kavi karnapura - Biography
    This is a biography of Lord Caitanya written according to the rules of poetics. The book is a Mahakavya of 1911 verses. ( 2 Vols.)


  • Srimad Bhagavatam Cantos 10 - 12 (26 Vols.) based on the following works:
  • Vaisnava Tosani of Sanatana Gosvami - A commentary on the tenth canto of Srimad Bhagavatam.
     
  • Krama Sandarbha - Jiva Gosvami's commentary on Bhagavatam. After writing the Sat-sandarbhas, he wrote a verse-by-verse commentary on Bhagavatam. This book should be studied after studying the Sandarbhas to get a complete understanding of the Bhagavatam.
     
  • Sarartha Darsini Tika - Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura's commentary on the Bhagavatam.

This selection of books covers the main elements of Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition; music, poetics, drama, grammar, ritual and philosophy. As such they lay a firm foundation for the courses taught at Jiva Institute of Vedic Studies.
