Q. Steve, sometimes we
have to change our nature either for the situations or
circumstance. Is it right or not?
Neelima N, Mumbai
A. When I was in
college, I took an acting class. The teacher told us again
and again, acting is not about pretending. It's about
bringing out the emotions and experiences that you already
have inside you to the character. I think what you are
describing is very much the same thing. That is, I don't
think we "change our nature". We have all nine Multiple
Natures. And of those nine, some are dominant within us
partially due to genetics, and partially due to our life
experiences that demanded more of those natures to be in the
forefront. However when circumstances arrive that summon our
passive natures, we have to make an extra effort. They are
like weak muscles that we need to flex.

Q. For a person who is
spiritually oriented, what would be his/her MI/MN?
Rajyashree M, Varanasi
A. I think this is
more a question of MI and less a question of MN. If a person
is spiritually oriented, it means he/she has strong
Intrapersonal Intelligence. This can be combined with any of
the MNs. For instance, if the person has a Protective
Nature, they might be interested in protecting spiritual
culture and heritage. If Educative, there would be a
tendency to teach spiritual topics. If Healing, the person
might become a spiritual healer, etc.

Q. In MN, where would we
put a person who is destructive in nature (e.g., a
terrorist/criminal)?
Roshandeep S, Lucknow
A. I don't believe
that a terrorist or criminal is a nature. My belief is that
one of the following is happening:
-
The individual is not
working in conjunction with his nature. For instance, a
person with a strong Entrepreneurial Nature becomes a
doctor. But he does not have a strong Healing Nature. As a
result, his Entrepreneurial Nature forces him to make a
business out of his work, where he winds up charging
patients excessively, etc.
-
The individual does not
have good values. I consider values as an aspect of
personality that is on a different plane than nature (which
is on a different plane than intelligence). So in other
words, a person might be working according to his nature,
but he has corrupt values. For instance, he might have an
Entreprenurial Nature, and winds up selling drugs. Or he has
a Protective Nature, but winds up becoming a terrorist
(believing he is protecting some particular cause).

Q. I am a teacher. How
to persuade a colleague to understand and perceive.
Angelina, Cochin
A. Your question is
a little vague. If you are more specific, I can answer it
better. But the most important question you need to answer
is this: Is your colleague interested to understand and
perceive what you want? If not, then it is extremely
difficult. Learners have to want to learn. If the person is
reluctant to understand what you want, you have to either
wait until they're ready. Otherwise you have to find a
creative way to get them interested.

Q. In my class I have
this very emotional student in class X. He writes very well
and hasn't yet decided about his career. Help!
Monika K, Panaji
A. First, be sure he
does the MI/MN test at
www.whatsmynature.com. Once you know his nature, it will
be easy for you to channel his energies into a direction
that is in synch with his nature. If he's good at writing
(perhaps his Linguistic Intelligence is dominant), try to
find opportunities for him to engage his writing skills.
Encourage him to write a journal. He can write articles for
your school newspaper. He might want to make his own blog…there
are many such activities for him to choose from.
