5 Benefits of Gentle Oil Massages During Pregnancy

Prenatal massage has both physical and mental benefits. It relaxes the body and mind, helps to keep the tridosha under control, and facilitates the overall health and wellbeing of the mother. However, in some cases, massages are not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. It’s better to consult your doctor to get an opinion in this regard.

Benefits of Oil Massage:

  • The growing foetus puts a lot of pressure on the back of the pregnant woman. Massaging the lower back with ayurvedic herbal oil helps relieve this pain and can even strengthen the back muscles.

  • During pregnancy, the milk ducts are growing and being stretched to fill with milk. This causes your breasts to be more sensitive, particularly your nipples. Breast massage helps avoid stretch marks and keeps your breasts in shape.

  • A certain amount of foot pain and swelling during pregnancy is normal, particularly in your ankles and feet, because you're retaining more water and supporting the additional weight of the growing foetus. Daily foot massage with an herbal oil before retiring to bed induces deep relaxation and gives relief from pain.

  • Full ayurvedic body massage at least thrice a month promotes relaxation, strengthens the muscles, bones, and joints, and relieves body cramps.

  • Herbal massage can help ease itchiness and skin discolouration and keep your body well nourished and supple.
