Menorrhagia is a menstrual problem that causes excessive bleeding, painful cramps, and prolonged periods. In Ayurveda, it is known as Asrigdara, literally meaning ‘heavy flow of blood’, and is caused by vitiation in both the pitta dosha and rakhta dhatu (blood tissue).
Take one cup of water and boil it with 1 tsp dhania seeds (coriander seeds) and ½ tsp dalchini (cinnamon) till it is reduced to half a cup. Add some mishri (rock sugar) and have this concoction twice a day.
Combine a strand of kesar (saffron) with 1 tsp of honey and lick the spoon clean!
Add 1 ½ tsp of the powdered bark of Ashoka tree (saraca indica) to a glass of water. Boil it till it is reduced to ¼ its quantity. Add 3 tbsp of milk and boil until it is again reduced to half its quantity. Sieve the drink and enjoy once cool.
Eat kishmish (raisins) to satisfy your sweet tooth, while also pacifying the aggravated Pitta dosha.
