Diabetes is fast gaining ground as the most prevalent disease in the world. Even today, a majority of the population suffer from diabetes mellitus. From an Ayurveda perspective, Type 1 Diabetes is because of an imbalance in the Vata Dosha. This is a fire element. When you experience an imbalance in the Kapha Dosha, you experience Type 2 diabetes. This type of diabetes concerns the water and the earth elements. There are Ayurvedic medicines that can help to generate and regulate blood sugar in natural ways. Let us look at some of them in brief.

Neem:

This plant has a solid reputation for providing relief to diabetes patients. The extracts of the neem leaves can help lower blood sugar levels tremendously. One of the best ways of consuming these neem leaves is by making a decoction or Kashayam as they refer to it in Sanskrit. Crush the neem leaves, add it to water and bring it to a boil. Filter out the extracts and have this decoction. It is one of the best ways to provide relief from glucose-induced hyperglycaemia. Using neem oil on the skin is also a common method used by people in India, but consuming the decoction is the best way out.

Bitter gourd juice: (karela)

This bitter vegetable has glucose-lowering properties. In fact, this vegetable can influence the metabolism of glucose in the entire body rather than a particular organ or a tissue. This herb can help in the secretion of pancreatic insulin thus proving beneficial to both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients. Drink the juice of this bitter vegetable first thing in the morning for about 2 months to see the difference. You can also have this vegetable as an important part of your diet.
