Pigmentation can be described as an irregular skin colouring caused by changes in melanin, the colouring pigment in the skin. According to Ayurveda, it is caused by aggravation of one of the five Pitta doshas - the Bhajrak Pitta - which gives colour, lustre, and aura to the skin tissues. Imbalance of this dosha can result in blackening and discolouration, which we call pigmentation in skin tissues.
Add a few drops of Kumkumadi oil and a pinch of haldi (turmeric) to aloe vera gel. Apply this to the affected areas before your bath every day and keep on for 30 minutes before washing off. This will pacify the pitta and lighten the complexion.
Make a paste of ¼ spoon of haldi (turmeric) with 1 tsp of honey and milk. Apply to the affected skin for 10-15 minutes before washing it off.
An aggravated pitta is the main cause of pigmentation. So, it is important to follow a diet that’ll pacify pitta.
Include fruits like melons, plums and peaches in your diet.
