Headaches are a part of all of our lives. Sleeping badly one night, not eating at the right time or drinking enough water - anything can cause a headache. While most of us simply pop a painkiller in our mouths and carry on with our daily lives, here we give you some Ayurvedic home remedies to prevent and ease headaches.
For the common person, one headache is pretty much the same as the other. But according to Ayurveda, every headache has a different cause - doshic imbalance (usually an aggravated vata dosha), sinusitis, hyperacidity, anaemia. So don’t leave things to guesswork. To get a proper diagnosis of the root cause of your headache, you should get yourself checked out by an Ayurvedic doctor.
However, even though the causes are diverse, there are some home remedies that bring relief from headaches in general.
Give yourself a head massage with til or badaam oil (sesame or almond) 2-3 times a week. Both almond and sesame oil are great at pacifying vata and calming your nervous system.
Drink a cup of warm milk with half a spoon of ghee before going to bed. Ghee kindles the agni (digestive fire), improves digestive functioning, and also removes ama (toxins) from the body.
Put 3 drops of almond oil in each nostril before going to bed to pacify the doshas and open up any congestion in your nasal tract.
Combine these home remedies with a daily routine of meditation and yoga and bid goodbye to your headache!
