Ward Off Stress with 3 Calming & Relaxing Yoga Poses

Stress is one of the most common health issues nowadays, found in youngsters and adults alike. Excessive stress, due to cutthroat competition, often leads to depression when expectation and fulfilment do not match.

Ayurveda, however, has a remedy for stress – Yoga. Regular practice can help calm the mind and improve energy levels. Try these three basic poses to beat stress and overcome depression:

Sukhasana

This asana reduces anger and frustration and calms the mind, allowing it to focus on positive thoughts.

  1. Fold your palms across the chest in the prayer motion. Inhale deeply.

  2. The oxygen will pervade the entire body and boost metabolism.

Savasana

This asana allows tension to escape the body, helping it relax and release stress.

  1. Lie on your back like a corpse, keeping your legs apart for 5 minutes.

  2. Rest the arms beside the body and close your eyes.

  3. Focus on your breath and relax the muscles completely

Matsyasana

This asana stimulates the part of the brain regulates emotions. People with high BP, abdominal surgery and hernia should avoid this asana.

  1. Sit with the left foot placed on the right thigh and the right foot on the left thigh.

  2. Place your hands behind the body on the floor and lean back on your elbows slowly. Tilt the body backwards till the top of your head touches the ground.

  3. Breathe through the nose and exhale through the mouth. Hold the position for 8-10 counts. Return to normal. Repeat.
