Alleviate Cough and Cold in Kids with these Home Remedies

With the seasons changing, common cough and cold are on a rise. Mentioned within are a few home remedies to help your child get over his/her cold-

Young children tend to fall prey to the common cold and cough quite often. This is probably because their immune system is still developing. Even though it’s not a major illness, parents do get quite hassled when their kids come down with a cough. But with these Ayurvedic home remedies, you can help your kids beat the affliction and become hale and hearty soon.

Garlic

Garlic boosts the immune system and helps the body kill the virus that supports common cold.

  • Boil 2 garlic pods in a glass of water. Let it cool.

  • Ask your child to take 2 sips of garlic water every 2-3 hours.

Ginger

Ginger has long been used to reduce symptoms of common cold and cough. Its soothing qualities also help decongest blocked nose.

  • Grate ginger and boil it in water. Let it cool.

  • Strain the water and ask your child to drink it.

  • You can even add a tsp. of honey to it.

Honey

Honey is one of the finest sources of heat and energy, therefore highly beneficial to ease cold.

  • Add a tsp of honey in warm water or milk.

  • Give this to your child 1-2 times a day

Mustard-garlic oil

Sarso oil (mustard oil) helps the chest congestion.

  • Warm up 8-10 tsp of mustard oil.

  • Add garlic to it and let the oil sizzle.

  • Strain the oil off crushed garlic and let it cool down.

  • Aly it on your child’s chest, forehead and throat twice a day.

Drain the mucus, if any

Making the child sleep at a particular angle by building a wedge under their head using pillows can drain the mucus buildup.
