How to Fight Meningitis in Kids by Boosting Ojas

Meningitis is a common disease caused by an aggravation of kapha and pitta. The weaker ojas of children makes them more susceptible to it. To strengthen it try these ayurvedic tips.

Highlights

  • Meningitis is more common in children as they have a weaker ojas.

  • Avoid overfeeding your child to compensate for his weakness.

  • Regular massage with til oil can increase blood circulation and strengthen their body

Meningitis, commonly known as Brain Fever, is a dangerous disease that children are especially susceptible to. It happens when the Meninges, a membrane covering the brain and spine, gets inflamed. According to the Western perspective, this happens due to a virus in the brain. The Ayurvedic perspective, on the other hand, believes that it’s a kapha aggravation in the brain that causes this inflammation, while an aggravated pitta is responsible for the accompanying fever.

The reason that this disease is more commonly seen in kids is as they have a weaker ojas (immunity) than adults. To protect your child from many such diseases, try these Ayurvedic tips to increase immunity.

  • When kids tend to be slightly weak, parents normally try and overfeed them, but all this does is increase the amount of ama (toxins) in their body. Instead, structure the child’s diet to include plenty of green veggies as they fuel the ojas, and keep junk food to a minimum.

  • Start giving them Chyawanprash from a young age as there is nothing better than that to strengthen the ojas.

  • Give them regular massages with til (sesame) oil to strengthen their body and increase blood circulation.

  • Give them a juice made by mixing adrak (ginger) and honey to boost immunity.

  • Incorporate ghee in their diets to strengthen their ojas and fire up their agni (digestive juices) to get rid of excess ama (toxins).
