Have sleepless nights left you in a constantly exhausted state? You may be suffering from Insomnia. Insomnia is a disorder that stops you from getting sufficient sleep at night, something that can lead to countless problems like a weakened ojas (immunity) and metabolism along with bad heart health and mental issues.
According to Ayurveda, insomnia is caused by an aggravated vata dosha. When vata gets aggravated, the prana vayu (a subdosha of vata) starts flowing excessively through the brain, causing restlessness and hyperactivity.
While you may be inclined to directly pacify the vata with a diet regime, it is important to understand that insomnia is caused when vata gets aggravated due to an unhealthy lifestyle. This lifestyle includes sleeping at improper times, eating vata aggravating foods, not exercising, drinking too much coffee and tea and taking on too much stress. So, to be free of this problem, you must fix these habits.
Before sleeping, massage the soles of your feet with badam (almond) or til (sesame) oil.
Put 2 drops of rosewater in each eye before bed.
After you’re done with your day, create a stress-free environment and sit in Shavasana for 7-10 minutes.
Don’t drink any coffee or tea in the evening.
Refrain from using electronics, like TV, and mobile phones, at night.
