Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Child- Month 4

The fourth month marks the beginning of the second trimester. It is around this month that your body begins changing externally and it becomes obvious that you’re carrying a little one inside you!

The Foetus Grows

During this month, all the limbs and organs of the baby become distinct. The baby grows a neck, develops joints in the limbs, grows hard bones and skin. The baby also starts kicking and flexing in the womb. The baby is 4 to 5 inches long and weighs just less than 3 ounces.

The Right Nutrition

  • Dairy products are important during this month. Include butter in your diet along with rice and curds.

  • Eat all sorts of fresh fruits and vegetables to build ojas (immunity) like dates, apricots, mangoes, dark leafy greens and other green veggies like spinach.

Listen to your Body

As your belly starts growing, it’ll affect your sense of balance and how you move. You may feel dizzy from sudden movements, so it is important to give yourself time to adjust to the changes happening in your body.

Do Yoga

Yoga has a lot of benefits for an expecting mother, and there are many asanas you can do. Here are two of them. However, practice with an experienced Yoga instructor to ensure safety.

Vajrasana increases blood flow to the pelvic region and strengthens the pelvic muscles, thereby preparing you for labour. It also improves digestive function which is a problem many women face during this time.

Paschimottanasana is great for relieving lower back pain and massages the organs in the abdomen and pelvic region, relieving cramps.
