The desire for a healthy progeny is universal. But some couples do not have a smooth and easy path to parenthood. Thankfully, Ayurveda can be effective in restoring the reproductive health. Among the hundreds of infertility cases treated at Jiva in the last year alone, doctors have observed a few causes to be common in most patients.

Malnourishment and weak metabolism:

The most common cause behind infertility is malnourishment. On top of that, if the metabolism is weak, the body suffers from multiple deficiencies. Nutritious food creates Rasa and good Rasa contributes towards creating Shukra Dhatu (Sperm & Ovum). Today, most people eat junk food which does not have any nutritional quality, hence the quality of Shukra Dhatu is also poor.

Exposure to chemicals and harsh conditions:

Exposure to harsh chemical environment and very hot environments like outdoor jobs or working near furnaces or wearing tight clothes throughput the day creates excess warmth in the body and reduces the quality of Shukra Dhatu.

Stress:

Stress leads to infertility. Stress increases Vata dosha and blocks the natural flow of rasa in the body. This eventually hampers the formation of Shukra Dhatu and in the long term can cause infertility.

PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome):

Polycystic ovary syndrome is also known as Polycystic ovary disorder (PCOD) and it is a disease in which Vata and Kapha imbalance causes Agni to become weak, and that affects the formation of sperm and ovum. In PCOD, mamsa (muscles), rakta (blood) and meda (fat tissues) become affected. Because of this, cysts are formed and the patient gains weight.

Blockage in fallopian tube:

Due to Strotodushti, the fallopian tubes become blocked. This is emerging as one of the most common reasons of infertility among women today. In Ayurveda, tubal blockage is known as Vyapada.
