5 Ways to Combat Vaginal Dryness

Due to an unbalanced vata and low amounts of estrogen, vaginal dryness is a common problem for women going through menopause.

Highlights

  • Staying hydrated is extremely important.

  • Include herbs like Shatavari, Aloe vera, and liquorice (mulethi) in your diet.

  • Dosha-specific abhyanga massage also helps counter vaginal dryness.

A common problem for women going through menopause is vaginal dryness. This being the vata time of life, all forms of dryness, including dry skin and scalp are very common. Another reason for this dryness is the lessening of the amount of estrogen in your body causing the painful thinning and drying of the vaginal tissue.

Here are some Ayurvedic tips to combat vaginal dryness.

  • Make abhyanga (self-massage) a part of your everyday routine. If you have a dominant vata, use sesame oil (til), for a dominant pitta coconut oil (nariyal) is best, and kapha dominants should use mustard oil (sarso). Take the jiva VPK test to determine your dominant dosha.

  • Staying hydrated is extremely important. While abhyanga will ensure you remain externally hydrated, for your inner self drink at least eight glasses of water daily and eat sweet, juicy fruits in abundance.

  • Have a douching routine with sesame oil (til) or ghee.

  • Include herbs like Shatavari, aloe vera and liquorice (mulethi) in your diet. Try the Jiva Shatavari tablets for excellent benefits.

  • Maintaining a healthy ojas (immunity) is important throughout your life, but it is especially at this time that you need the vitality and glows it gives. The best food to promote the production of ojas is ghee.
