Indigestion, Nausea or Motion Sickness? Try Saunf!

Saunf (fennel seed) has been in use in Ayurveda to treat a wide range of health conditions from diabetes to irregular menstruation to bad breath, but saunf is most commonly known to be a great herbal home remedy for digestive problems. Here are some digestive disorders in which Ayurveda recommends saunf.

1. Weak appetite

If you are not feeling hungry during your regular meal times, you can chew a teaspoon of roasted fennel seeds and drink a cup of lukewarm water. This will help in getting your digestion back in order.

2. Slow digestion

Did you have a heavy meal? Roasted saunf can help. In a mortar and pestle, take two spoons of roasted saunf and grind it well. Now add a small pinch of black pepper. Pour this mixture in a cup of hot water and let it cool for 10 minutes. Now strain the liquid and drink.

3. Nausea/Motion sickness

If you feel the tendency to vomit whenever you are in a vehicle, chew on half a teaspoon raw saunf, the sweet juice will help in preventing the feeling of nausea.

4. Dysentery

In dysentery, you can boil Saunf and use the water to mix dough and prepare rotis. For dysentery in children, give a little aniseed with black salt.

5. Constipation

Fennel tea helps in easing bowel movement in constipation. You can prepare fennel tea by boiling raw fennel in 2 cups of water until the water reduces to half. Strain the tea and drink it. If necessary, add half teaspoon honey for taste.

Good digestion? You should still consume Saunf

Saunf is not just for relief in digestive disorders. Regular use of saunf in cooking and after meals help in maintaining a strong digestion and regulates bowel movement. You can use roasted saunf in salads, make a cooling drink in summer, prepare saunf tea or simply chew a little saunf after meals.
