The Top 5 Things People get Wrong about Ayurveda

There are a lot of common misconceptions about Ayurveda. From calling it a ‘pseudo science’ and dismissing its results as the placebo effect - there are many things that have been said about this ancient form of science. It’s time to tackle these myths head on and sort fact from fiction

Ayurveda is an outdated and obsolete system:

Ayurveda may date back to over 5,000 years, but it isn’t outdated or obsolete by any means. It has proven to be relevant to modern times by providing relief in conditions like Obesity, Stress, PCOS and Hyperthyroidism.

It’s not a scientific system:

Like every other medical science, the treatments offered by Ayurveda have always been been based on facts, evidence, and testing rather than faith or speculation.

It’s not a complete therapy within itself:

Ayurveda is not just a supporting therapy for other ‘mainstream scientific treatments’. It treats diseases by fixing the underlying causes using natural medicines, potions, and therapies. Ayurvedic treatments should not be mixed with other medication without consulting a doctor first, as they can react badly with each other.

Ayurveda is a kitchen science:

It’s true that a lot of Ayurvedic herbs and spices can be found in our kitchen, but the herbs, potions and medicines prescribed by doctors are prepared with scientific precision to suit each body type on the basis of its dosha (vata, pitta and kapha).

Ayurveda offers lifestyle tips, not treatments:

Ayurveda does take a preventive method to health and fitness, recommending a wholesome lifestyle to keep diseases at bay. However, the doctors also offer treatments for a wide range of diseases, including arthritis, asthma, and obesity.
