Ahem, Can We Help With That Sore Throat?

Winters can be a hard time for many of us. Either we’re shivering in our boots, looking for comfort under layers of warm clothes, or we’re sniffling and coughing the season away. One of the most common problems that plague us during winters is sore throat. The briefest exposure to cold and we land up with a croaking voice that would put a frog to shame. And let’s not forget the pain and the discomfort that do absolutely nothing for our mood and morale. Enough with the suffering! Here are some Ayurvedic home remedies that will bring you respite and allow you to binge on all those winter goodies guilt-free and pain-free!

1. It’s Tea Time Sipping on warm chamomile or ginger tea can alleviate the pain and fight inflammation. Here’s another ready and natural Ayurvedic alternative that you will love. And, if you like your tea sweet, add a dash of honey to it.

2. Let’s Make Things Steamy Heat some water in a pot, drape a towel over your head, and then, slowly and deeply, inhale the steam. Add a few drops of essential oil like eucalyptus, thyme, or lavender to make the steam therapy more effective.

3. Spice, spice baby Take a teaspoon each of cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, black pepper corn, and dry ginger. Grind them together and simmer the powder in 2-3 cups of boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Strain the solution and drink it while it’s still warm.

While these home remedies are quite effective, they will only take you so far. If the sore throat persists for longer than 3-4 days, you should get yourself checked by a doctor and take the right medicines.
