Ayurveda defines shirahshool (headaches) as a condition that may be caused by stress, emotional strain, high blood pressure, insomnia, or constipation. If you’re suffering from constant headaches, diet could be a major factor. For this reason, a right diet can help reduce headaches to a considerable extent.

Consider making the following changes to your diet to be free of headaches

  • Avoid fried, spicy, cold, dry, pickled, and smoked foods

  • Do not have pineapples, bananas, citrus fruits, plums, peas, raspberries, chocolates, yoghurt, and cheese.

  • Regular intake of milk and sweet food is avoided.

  • Having coconut water is highly recommended.

  • Light foods like vegetable juices, boiled vegetable cooked without oil, soups and also fruits like apples, grapes, pears, mangos, fruit juices should be consumed regularly.

  • Rice, salads, and buttermilk is recommended

  • Nuts can be consumed in small amounts.

In India, the Ayurveda medicinal system is based on herbs. The following herbal remedies can also help in reducing headaches.

  • Put 2-3 drops of sesame(til) / mustard (sarso) into each nostril and inhale deeply.

  • Have 1 tsp of honey infused in a glass of warm water every morning on an empty stomach

  • Medicated clove (laung) oil or medicated menthol oil massages can be soothing
