Restore Harmony to Your Body With This Kapha Balancing Winter Tea

With winter, comes the heaviness of kapha, which brings congestion, and stagnation of mind and body.

Highlights

  • Late fall and winter are known as kapha season

  • Kapha imbalance can lead to a host of problems, like dry skin, cold, cough, and even aniety and depression

  • This Kapha-balancing Winter tea ignites agni and aids digestion

As long as the production of kapha is in balance, a Kapha dominant person will be healthy, creative, and exuberant. But when there’s kapha aggravation in the body, the imbalance manifests as physical or emotional disorders, including flu, insomnia, dry skin, arthritis, constipation, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression.

Late fall and winter are known as kapha season, and this is the time when we see a lot of these problems that we talked of above. That’s why Ayurveda recommends heating herbs and spices in our foods. They help pacify aggravated kapha and balance the doshas.

This kapha-balancing herbal tea will keep you warm, melt excess kapha and restore balance to the body.

  1. Add 6 cups of water in a pot and heat over medium-high.

  2. Next, crush 5 elaichis (cardamom pods) along with the seeds and add it to water.

  3. Mix 1 tsp. of fennel seeds, ½ tsp. of grated ginger, ½ tsp. of ginger powder, 2 cloves and ⅛ of an orange slice.

  4. Add all these spices to the boiling water and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes.

  5. Turn off the heat, and add 1 tsp. of dried tulsi leaves.

  6. Let the leaves steep for 3-5 min.

  7. Add honey to taste, strain it, and serve.

As you weave these kapha-balancing recipes into your daily routine, you’ll feel more nourished. You will find yourself feeling more energized and centred in the months to come. The spices in the tea will help melt excess kapha that is lodged in your body, ignite your agni and keep you warm through the winter months.
