5 Powerful Wonder Herbs to Relieve Sciatica Pain

The Sciatic nerve runs from the lower back and extends through your legs. An inflammation around the nerve can bring about intense pain, which, according to Ayurveda, is caused by an aggravated vata dosha. While we hope you never experience this pain, but if you do, we recommend these herbs that will help ease your pain naturally.

1. Nirgundi

Excellent at pacifying the vata, Nirgundi is a boon for all those suffering from joint and nerve pains. This herb reduces inflammation in the body, especially in the back.

Add Nirgundi decoction to your bath water or use Nirgundi oil to massage the affected area.

2. Guggulu

Guggulu has been used to relieve lower back pain for centuries as it nourishes, strengthens and soothes the muscles of the back naturally.

Apply a Guggulu paste to the affected area for pain relief.

3. Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is wondrous at helping with any numbness and pain in the muscles. It also soothes inflammation in the body and pacifies the vata dosha.

Infuse Ashwagandha in til (sesame) oil to massage the affected area.

4. Pippali

A powerful herb that is used widely for various ailments, Pippali is also considered a rasayana - a life-extending herb. When applied topically, it relieves soreness in muscles and joints

Boil Pippali seeds in water, strain the liquid, mix with ground ginger and powdered camphor and apply to affected area for pain relief.

5. Jaiphal

Jaiphal suppresses vata and kapha dosha and relieves pain in the nerves and muscles.

Coarsely grind Jaiphal, fry in sesame oil till brown, and massage gently over the affected area.
