Sciatica (Gridhrasi) refers to the pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower back. The burning pain is an uncomfortable annoyance that often prevents a good night’s sleep.
Here are some tips that you can incorporate in your night routine that will help you sleep better.
Keep your back strong and pay attention to your core muscles. Muscles in your lower back and abdomen are essential for good posture and alignment
Maintain proper posture when you sit. Support your lower back. Place a small pillow or a rolled up towel in the small of your back to maintain the normal curve.
Pick the best sleeping position for sciatica. Sleeping on the sides exacerbates the pain. Use a pillow to hedge yourself in while you sleep on your back.
Find a better sleeping surface. Medium firm or a firm mattress is recommended. You can even sleep on a yoga mat placed on the floor. Firm surfaces provide support and promote spinal alignment.
Stop yourself from lying on your painful side. Lie on your back and support your knees by a pillow while sleeping.
Invest in a good neck pillow. Neck pillows have a deeper depression that provide extra support under the neck.
Do some light stretching before bed, take a walk or go for a jog. Do not push your body, discontinue if your condition is extremely painful.
