An old Indian saying goes thus, "there is hope as long as there is life." Do not let your life suffer from the hopelessness of respiratory disorders. In Ayurveda, Panchakarma therapies can help you improve the health of your respiratory system and get relief in asthma.

Asthma is a respiratory disease during which, the respiratory tract becomes constricted, swollen and filled with mucus, thereby making breathing difficult. Patients of asthma experience a sensation of their chest tightening up, and often complain of short breathes and persistent coughs. Asthma can be controlled and managed with ayurveda.

Ayurvedic perspective on asthma:

according to ayurveda, accumulation of Vata and Kapha in the respiratory tract and the digestive system are responsible for breathing problems, including asthma. Panchakarma therapies are very effective in cleansing the body of toxins and removing accumulated doshas which clears up any obstructions in the respiratory channel.

Panchakarma treatment:

There is equivalent significance of both medicines and Panchakarma therapies in ayurvedic treatment of asthma. Panchakarma is a collection of 5 special therapies, as mentioned below, that are administered after Svedana and Snehana.

Vaman:

Virechana:

Virechana is a purification therapy and one among the 5 Ayurvedichealing therapies of Panchakarma which can prevent and heal a number of physical, mental and emotional disorders and illnesses. This therapy is best known for treating diseases that emerge from the vitiation of Pitta dosha. With the help of medicines, toxins are expelled via the anal route and is considered very helpful in asthma.

Nasya:

This therapy includes installation of herbal oils, juices or powders through the nasal route. It works specifically on disorders of the throat, nose and ear. Nasya purifies and strengthens the nasal passage, allowing you to breathe fully and easily again. It is recommended for concession, allergies, headaches, breathing disorders like asthma and migraine to name a few.

Vasti:

Vasti is a specialised Panchakarma procedure to manage and balance Vata related disorders. It is used to promote elimination of vitiated Vata dosha through the anus in the form of enema. This is recommended in treatment for obesity, weight loss, lumbago, heaviness in the body, gynaecological and neurological disorders.

To cleanse your body of toxins, Panchakarma therapies must be complemented with healthy food, exercises, yoga and ayurvedic treatment.
