Panchakarma Massages that Give Relief in Joint Pain

Joint pain can get very uncomfortable and frustrating if not absolutely excruciating. While there are several medications that can help manage the pain, they often have a temporary effect and in some cases also have severe side-effects. Ayurveda recommends massages with therapeutic oils as an effective solution for joint pain.

Abhyanga:

This includes a full body massage for 45 minutes with ayurvedic oils. The oils are selected after thoroughly understanding the patient’s body, the season, and the condition of the disease. The number of massage strokes and pressure vary with the condition of the individual. This therapy relieves stiffness in muscles and joints. It also increases blood circulation and removes toxins and metabolic wastes.

Pichu:

Apply a thick layer of cotton soaked in warm medicated oil over the affected areas. This is a very effective remedy for degenerative conditions, like back pain, osteoarthritis, spondylitis, etc.

Ksheera Dhoomam:

This is a fomentation process, which involves heating of medicated milk and steaming the entire body with it. It is effective for numbness, headaches, allergies, and paralysis. Moreover, it helps relieve nervous disorders of the face, speech disorders, and neurological problems.

Kati Vasti:

Lukewarm herbal oils are poured into an artificial bridged created around the affected areas. The healing properties of the oils enrich the blood and build strong muscles. It also loosens stiff joints. Helps cure cervical spondylitis, neck pain and treat different conditions of the knee joint.

This remedy involves fomentation of the body with a bolus of cooked rice. The rice is cooked with milk and a herbal decoction. It helps in strengthening the body, rejuvenating the tissues, and improving muscle tone. It also helps in treating chronic rheumatism, osteoarthritis, gout etc.
