What causes severe joint pain?

Gout: This is a form of joint disorder that is characterised by severe pain with a sharp pin-pricking sensation that is felt at the extremities and joints, especially at the base of the big toe. The pain can start very suddenly often when you are in the middle of an activity, or sleeping at night. You will feel as if your toes are on fire, and they will feel swollen and tender. The pain can last for a few seconds and go away, or in extreme cases it may last for days or weeks continuously. As the disease progresses, the symptoms last longer, as well as it will make it increasingly difficult for you to walk, or put weight on your feet.  

Cervical Spondylitis: In this case the joint pain causes are less pronounced and may take longer to manifest itself. The most common of the symptoms include a feeling of stiffness in the neck and the head region particularly, making it difficult to turn the head or neck. Pain in the arms and shoulder joints may also be experienced. Spasms are sudden jerks in the arms and legs is also common. People complain of uncontrolled reflexes in their body and a lack of coordination which makes it difficult to walk or to carry out today activities. In summer past cases, people have also complained of losing control of their bowel and bladder movement.
