What are the possible causes of joint pain? Read here to know more

Are you experiencing joint pain? The cause behind it can be anything from an age-related degeneration such as osteoarthritis, or an autoimmune disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis. If you has been depending entirely on just home remedies for joint pain, it’s time you started the root cause treatment by first understanding the causes of joint pain that is applicable in your case.

Causes of joint pain

Joints are special part of the human body that facilitates the movement of limbs and are vital for day to day activities. Sometimes, you may experience pain, stiffness, tenderness or a warm sensation around your joints. This may be caused as a result of an injury, or because of some other underlying disease. Typically, most joint pain do not require medical intervention, however ignorance of the fact that it maybe caused by a disease may lead to further complications that must be avoided with timely consultation with an expert doctor. Here are some of the most common causes that can lead to pain in your joints.

Infectious diseases: In cases of infectious diseases such as influenza or mumps, it is common to experience fatigue, weakness and a low-grade fever, but have you ever wondered why your body and joints ache? It is because of the immune system fighting back. Viral as well as bacterial infections have been known to cause joint pains which go away as soon as the infection is treated. If you know that you have an infectious disease, then in order to get the relief, you can use home remedies for joint pain. Applying a little warmth to the affect area usually is enough to give you some comfort. You can also use a pain relief balm.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are very similar to that of Osteoarthritis in many ways. Symptoms include stiffness of joints, tenderness, swelling, excruciating pain, redness and feeling of warmth in the affected area, inability to move easily, inability to turn the neck or bow the head easily. It is an autoimmune disorder, therefore it is very important to understand that age is not a factor here. Even teenagers have been reported to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.

Cartilage damage: Bones are made of a protein known as collagen. The bones are held together in place by cartilages. These cartilages are prone to damage under extreme physical strain. Sports, intensive physical effort, work-related injury, or an accident can damage the cartilage and create pain in the joints.

Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia is another disorder that can cause joint pain. Not much has been understood about this disease by the medical fraternity yet. Symptoms include general fatigue, fogginess of the mind, tenderness in the joints and pain, inability to sleep, and general cognitive lapses. The pain is not just located in the joints, it can happen in the belly, or other muscle groups as well.

Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis is another bone disease that happens mostly to women in their advanced age. This is a condition in which the bone density and strength reduced significantly and the risk of a fracture increases significantly. Pain can be felt only when a fracture happens.

Gout: If you are experiencing a sudden and prickly pain in your toes, then chances are high that you have gout. This is a disorder that is characterised by increased presence of uric acid in the body. Affected areas become red and swollen as well as very tender to the touch. In its advanced stage, gout can also limit movement significantly. Affected areas may include knees, elbows, wrists and fingers.

Osteoarthritis:  Similar to osteoporosis, osteoarthritis is also an age related degenerative condition in which the bone becomes brittle and more likely to break even with little physical strain. Another problem that is associated with osteoarthritis is the reduction in cartilage cushioning between bones which increases the friction between them and causes pain. Arthritis symptoms can begin with simple things like minor stiffness and pain and then escalate into serious mobility issues later on if ignored.

How Jiva Ayurveda treats joint pain

Joint pain treatment in Ayurveda begins with first understanding the causes of joint pain. This is done on the basis of a detailed consultation by the doctor to identify the root cause behind a problem. In many cases, diet and lifestyle is the culprit, however genetic conditions, congenital problems, injuries and accidents can also be behind the problem.

Once the problem has been identified, the Jiva doctor plans a detailed and personalised course of treatment that is designed to work on the root cause of the individual patient. Treatment plan includes herbal medicines, Panchakarma massages, external application oils, specialised diet and lifestyle plans, and also psychological counselling in certain cases.

Throughout the treatment journey, doctors and health coaches stay in contact with the patient to help them with their queries, as well as to align their future consultation sessions, and help them refill their medicines timely.
