As adults, we are equipped with this art of making decisions owing to our past experiences. And as parents, we must teach our kids to take the right decision and make the right choices.

Highlights

  • Parents are responsible for teaching their kids how to make the right decision

  • Children don’t always have the confidence to see their decisions through

  • With the right guidance, they can pick up the essential skill of making the right decisions through life

Every now and then, we are left facing a situation that could either be a step forward in our life or go very wrong if the right decision is not taken. As adults, we are equipped with the skill of making decisions owing to our past experiences. And as parents, it is our responsibility to teach our kids to take the right decision and make the right choices.

Children hesitate taking their own decisions. They often lack the confidence to believe that they can make the right choice. The only person that can empower them to make the right decision is you. Mentioned below are a few ways for you to help your child make their own decisions and be confident while doing so.

Start small, limit their choices:

Limit your child’s choice to 2-3, like, chose a veg sandwich or a chicken sandwich, or, read a book or work on a jigsaw. Limiting their choices will allow them to understand that one cannot have everything at once and that is okay!

Pros and cons of each decision:

Choices aren’t always easy to make. They need to be analysed. Get your child to figure out the pros and cons of a situation and base the decision on their analysis. You can guide them whenever you think you need to but don’t spoon feed it to them. Let them work things out on their own.

It’s okay to make mistakes:

Everybody makes mistakes and your child will too. Do not berate them. You are their guide and words of encouragement will only cheer them up
