Personalized Healthcare: Why Every Body Needs Different Care

Information By Dr. Keshav Chauhan     Medically Reviewed by Dr.Partap Chauhan

Okay so real talk. Have you ever tried a diet that your friend swore by and felt absolutely nothing? Or took a supplement that "everyone" was raving about and ended up feeling worse than before? Yeah. Same.

And the most annoying part is when people say "oh it works, you're just not doing it right." No. That's not it. The truth is much simpler and honestly a little mind blowing once you get it.

Your body is not the same as anyone else's body. Full stop.

What works for your colleague, your cousin, your favourite fitness influencer, it might do absolutely nothing for you. Or it might actually not suit you at all. And that is completely normal. That is biology doing its thing.

This is the whole idea behind personalised healthcare. And once it clicks, you'll never look at generic health advice the same way again.

So What Does "Personalised Healthcare" Actually Mean?

No complicated definition needed here. Personalised healthcare simply means your health plan, your diet, your treatment, your lifestyle changes are built around you specifically your body, your history, your habits, your unique needs.

Not the average person. Not a general recommendation for someone your age.

It sounds obvious when you say it out loud, right? Of course care should be personal. But the reality is that most of the health advice floating around is surprisingly generic, and that's exactly where things start to go wrong for a lot of people

The "One Size Fits All" Problem Is Very Real

Let's be honest. Most health content online is written for everybody, which really means it's written for nobody in particular.

"Drink lemon water every morning." Cool. Does nothing for some people. Triggers acidity in others.

"Do intermittent fasting." Amazing for certain body types. Genuinely terrible for others who end up exhausted and irritable by noon.

"Cut out carbs." Works brilliantly for some. Leaves others feeling foggy and drained within days.

It's not that the advice is wrong exactly. It's that it's incomplete. It's missing the most important variable. The actual person following it.

And here's where it gets interesting. Ayurveda, which is thousands of years old by the way, already figured this out a very long time ago. The whole system is built on the idea that every person has a unique body constitution and needs to be treated accordingly. Modern science is only now catching up to what ancient healers already knew.

What Ayurveda Says About Your Unique Body

In Ayurveda, everything starts with understanding your Prakriti. Think of it as your body's original design. The blueprint you were born with.

Every person is made up of three doshas called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Most people have a mix of all three but usually one or two are dominant. And that dominant dosha influences literally everything. Your digestion, your sleep, your mood, your stress response, even the types of health issues you're more likely to face.

Here's a simple breakdown so you get the idea.

  • Vata types tend to be light, creative, quick and a little scattered. They're prone to dryness, anxiety, irregular digestion and joint problems. Warm, grounding food and a steady daily routine does wonders for them.
  • Pitta types are sharp, driven and intense. Great digestion usually but prone to acidity, inflammation and getting irritated when things go sideways. Cooling foods and proper stress outlets keep them balanced.
  • Kapha types are calm, steady and nurturing. Lovely people honestly. But they can gain weight easily, feel sluggish and have a tendency toward respiratory issues. They do best with lighter food and regular movement.

Same health advice for all three? That's a recipe for confusion. What balances a Vata person might actually aggravate a Pitta person. This is why generic advice keeps letting people down.

Science Agrees Too

This isn't just ancient wisdom. Modern research is saying the same thing in different words.

Your gut microbiome, the trillions of bacteria living in your digestive system, is completely unique to you. No two people have the same gut bacteria. And since your gut affects everything from immunity to mood to how you absorb nutrients, two people eating the exact same diet will have different outcomes. Wild, right?

Genetics play a huge role too. Some people metabolise certain medicines differently because of how their liver is genetically wired. A drug that helps one person might cause side effects in another for this exact reason.

Then there's sleep, hormones, mental health, environmental factors, childhood health history. All of these shape how your body responds to food, medicine, exercise and stress in ways that are entirely individual.

So the next time something doesn't work for you that worked for someone else, please stop blaming yourself. Your body is just different. And different is not broken.

Signs That Generic Healthcare Isn't Working For You

Not sure if this applies to you? Here are some real life signs worth paying attention to.

You've tried multiple diets and none of them have stuck long term. You keep getting the same health problems coming back again and again. Medicines or supplements seem to affect you differently than they do others. Your energy levels are unpredictable no matter how much you sleep. You've visited multiple doctors and still feel like nobody has quite put their finger on what's actually going on.

Sound familiar? This is usually a sign that your body needs something more tailored. More specific.

What Personalised Care Actually Looks Like in Practice

Good personalised healthcare starts with actually listening. A proper consultation where someone takes time to understand your full picture. Not just your current symptoms but your lifestyle, your digestion, your stress levels, your sleep, your history.

In Ayurvedic care, this looks like understanding both your Prakriti (your original constitution) and your Vikriti (your current imbalances). Because sometimes who you are naturally and how your body is functioning right now are two different things, and both matter.

From there, everything gets built around you. The dietary suggestions fit your body type. The herbal recommendations suit your specific condition. The lifestyle advice is realistic for your actual daily life. And as your body responds and things shift, the plan adjusts too.

This is very different from going online, reading a list of symptoms and following a generic 7 day cleanse. That might give you a temporary result. Personalised care is about getting to the root and actually staying well.

Easy Things You Can Start Doing Right Now

You don't need to figure out everything at once. Start small.

Begin noticing your own patterns. How do you feel after eating certain foods? Do you sleep better on some nights and terribly on others for no obvious reason? Do certain situations drain you while others energise you? These observations are gold.

Stop comparing your health journey to someone else's. Their body is not your body. Their results are not your results. You're allowed to take a completely different path.

If you've been going in circles with your health, it might be time to consider a proper one-on-one consultation with a qualified

And be patient with the process. Personalised healthcare isn't a quick fix, but the results tend to actually last because they're built on understanding your body, not working against it.

Final Thoughts

Here's the thing nobody says enough. Your body is not a problem to be solved with someone else's solution.

It has its own wisdom. Its own signals. Its own way of telling you what it needs. The goal of personalised healthcare, whether through Ayurveda or any other approach, is to actually listen to those signals and respond in a way that makes sense for you specifically.

Generic advice will only take you so far. At some point, the most powerful thing you can do for your health is to stop following the crowd and start understanding yourself.

That's not complicated. That's just smart.

FAQs

It means your health plan is made specifically for your body, not a general recommendation for everyone. It considers your body type, health history, lifestyle and individual needs before suggesting anything.

Ayurveda is actually one of the oldest systems of personalised medicine in the world. It identifies your unique body constitution called Prakriti and creates recommendations based on that rather than treating everyone the same way.

Prakriti is your natural body constitution according to Ayurveda. It is determined by the balance of three doshas called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. A qualified Ayurvedic doctor can assess your Prakriti through a detailed consultation that looks at your physical traits, digestion, sleep, temperament and more.

Absolutely yes. Two people with acidity, for example, might have it for completely different reasons based on their dosha imbalance. One might need cooling herbs while another needs digestive strengthening. Same disease, different root cause, different treatment.

Because everyone's gut microbiome, metabolism, dosha type and digestive strength are different. A high protein diet might suit a Pitta type but feel too heavy for a Kapha type. Personalised diet recommendations account for these differences.

Not at all. It is actually more powerful as a preventive approach. Understanding your body type and tendencies helps you make choices that keep you well before problems start showing up.

It depends on your condition and progress. Generally speaking, a review every few weeks or months is a good idea especially if your lifestyle, season or health status changes. The body is not static so the plan should not be either.

Yes. Ayurveda recognises that children also have individual constitutions and can benefit from tailored guidance around diet, immunity and routine from a young age.

Not necessarily. The initial consultation and proper diagnosis might take more time and investment than a quick generic prescription but in the long run it saves you from spending money on things that don't work for your body.

Start with a proper consultation with a qualified Ayurvedic doctor who takes time to understand your full health picture. Avoid relying on online quizzes or self diagnosis. A real conversation with a trained professional is where meaningful personalised care begins.
